Biotechnology and Biomedicine doctor from University of Valencia (February 2017). My scientific career started in the department of Aquatic Pathogens from the group ERI BIOTECMED in the University of Valencia. For 8 years, I have been studying the pathogic bacteria Vibrio vulnificus, among others, using different approaches including: basic microbiology, genetics, genomic, and metagenomic. As a scientist, I would consider to have two qualities that make me singular and extremely valuable. First of all, I consider myself a conscientious person who combines hard work with remarkable learning skills. Thanks to that, I have successfully become a microbiologist with the capacity to study bacteria through several approaches, some of them highly demanded as the genomic and metagenomic analysis. In addition to this, the experience in national and international congress has improved my capacity to share and communicate my research and, in my opinion, this is an essential part of science.
During the last years I have devoted my efforts to comprehend the influence of the human microbiome over the human health. First, in the prestigious international project MyNewGut at the "Instituto de Agroquímica y Tecnología de los Alimentos" and, nowadays, in the Foundation for the Promotion of the Health and Biomedical Research of Valencia Region (FISABIO).
My postdoctoral period with Dr. Alex Mira in FISABIO has added metatranscriptomics to my expertise in omic technologies. We are currently leading the metatranscriptomic study of three oral diseases: caries, halitosis and periodontitis. In addition, we are collaborating with several colleagues all over the world and I am responsible for the bioinformatic analyses of all the metagenomic, metatranscriptomic and 16S rRNA data. In one year, we have published 3 papers in scientific journals (1st quartile) consequence of these collaborations and 2 more are about to be send for revision.
