Currículum vitae

I got my degree in Biology, with an “Outstanding Graduation Award”, at the University of Valencia in 2001. I did my PhD research project under the supervision of Dr Amparo Latorre and Rosario Gil, at the ICBiBE (University of Valencia), in the program 'Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology' from 2002 to 2006. I worked on bacterial genome reduction and minimal genomes. I sequenced the smallest bacterial genome at that time, that of Buchnera aphidicola BCc, the primary endosymbiont from the cedar aphid.
Next, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher with Dr C Graham Clark’s, at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) from the University of London, from 2006 to 2009. My topic there was the genetic evolution of mitochondrial and related organelles during the transition from an aerobic to a strictly anaerobic lifestyle working on Blastocystis.
Finally, I held a ‘Sara Borrell’ contract at the 'Genomics and Health Area' at the CSISP, (currently FISABIO), since 2010 to mid- January 2014 to work on Metagenomics of microbial and viral communities associated to inflammatory bowel disease and other pathologies affecting the gastrointestinal tract. In  2014-15 I held a contract for Works and Services at the FISABIO and a contact associated with a project by the CIBER from the ISCIII to the end of 2017, when I started a contract with the AECC on microbiota and Lynch Syndrome until the end of 2019.  In January, 2020, I have started my current position for the next four years on plan GenT, from the Generalitat valenciana to work on microbiota and head and neck cancer, still in FISABIO .
My training is complemented with courses for undergraduate students and postgrade studies in phylogenetic reconstruction. I also attended courses during my postdoctoral period and attended seminars and conferences on  innovative technologies, but also others of theoretical nature.
My teaching experience includes 120h teaching at the University of Valencia in 3 different subjects from the department of Genetics, plus 1 course at the Master in Research in Molecular and Cellular Biology, and Genetics. I have also directed 5 dissertations or final projects theses in the past and currently co-direction of a doctoral thesis at the FISABIO. I have supervised 14 students at different programs. Finally, I have taken part in teaching of 3 summer courses at the CSISP/FISABIO.
Experience in Science and Technology:
I have participated in 8 research groups, 5 Spanish, 2 from other European countries. I have participated in 17 R&D&I competitive projects, funded by local and Spanish government or by international entities. My H index is 17, and I am main author in 54 publications, scientific and technical documents: 36 articles,4 reviews,3 book chapters,1 book, 8 meeting abstracts and 2 general interest journals. I am the first author in 13 publications and last/corresponding one in 4/7.
I have presented my work 34 times in national or international-level conferences as oral presentations or posters.
Besides my 3-year postdoctoral residency at the LSHTM in London, and 1-year residency at the CBMSO in Madrid (Spain) in 2013, I had a residency at the Mixed Research Unit INRA-INSA Lyon (France) for 3 months during my PhD studies.
